Music With BenefitsTM

Can you imagine life without safe, clean water?  For millions of people it’s a daily reality.

780 million people worldwide do not have access to safe drinking water. Each day, women and children must spend hours walking long distances over rough terrain, carrying water in containers as heavy as 40lbs. In Africa, people spend 40 billion hours each year collecting water. And the water that they find is contaminated with disease-causing bacteria and parasites. Disease from unsafe water is the leading cause of death in children under the age of 5.  Because so much of their time is spent collecting water, women are not able to achieve an education or have jobs, which means that they cannot contribute income for their families and villages and as a result, families and villages suffer economically. Lack of clean water is one of the greatest public health threats around the world.

The song, CARRY THE WATER, highlights this heartbreaking scenario in a positive, rhythmic anthem that calls for “many more wells all over the world” in order to bring clean drinking water to all people. To help raise awareness of this critical global issue, I collaborated with acclaimed filmmakers Molly Secours and Jeff Wyatt Wilson to create this music video of CARRY THE WATER.

To further my commitment to this cause, I am excited to announce that I have established partnerships with Amman Imman and Blood: Water, two non-profit organizations that are doing great work in creating sustainable ways to provide clean water to people in developing countries.

Amman Imman has already significantly improved the lives of tens of thousands of people in Africa, through its Africa-based program “Oases of Life.” Through this program, they establish points of civilization beginning with the construction of 600-foot deep borehole wells that pump safe, clean water and continuing with training among adults and youth, sanitation, building of schools and gardens, vaccination campaigns, food security programs and health initiatives. Funding is critical in order to bring the Oases of Life to the thousands of people in Africa who are in desperate need of clean water. Read more at

Blood:Water partners with African grassroots organizations to drill wells that pump clean water and improve sanitation and hygiene for vulnerable communities. They focus on serving populations burdened by HIV/AIDS, those recovering from decades of civil war and those living in urban slums and shanty compounds. This organization has already brought clean water access to one million people and their current goal is to bring clean water to another one million people during the next three years. Read more at

I am committed to bringing awareness to this cause and in using my music to help more people obtain access to clean water. Clean water access means that fewer women and children will have to walk miles and miles each day for water.  It means that children can stay in school.  It means that fewer people will die from water-borne diseases.  It means that communities will thrive and that we will be even closer to providing clean water for all people.

Lucy Billings - Carry the WaterAs a first step, during the months of April, May and June, I will donate 50% of all sales of CARRY THE WATER to Blood: Water and Amman Imman.  You can easily purchase the physical CD or downloads directly from this website. Or, if you prefer, you may download the CD through iTunes or CD Baby. Not only will you receive music that I hope you enjoy for years to come, you will ALSO contribute to a great cause – clean water access!

I’m also excited to let you know that I will be performing a live fundraising concert live from Nashville, which you will be able to watch on-line.  Further details will be posted soon!

Special thanks John Jennings (my co-writer), Molly Secours and J. W. Wilson for their excellent filmmaking and the kind and gracious people of Migori, Kenya and Nashville who generously participated in the CARRY THE WATER video.

As the song says, “CARRY THE WATER, CARRY IT HOME.”

I hope that you will join me in this mission!  THANK YOU!
